Getting Involved

If you’d like see if puppy raising is for you, the way to get started is to come to a meeting. Contact us for directions and meeting times.

Meanwhile, you can:

Before we accept your puppy raising application, we require that all future raisers attend four regular meetings, a Saturday outing, experience a graduation ceremony at the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus in San Rafael and demonstrate a knowledge of the manual. These preliminaries will give you a sample of the puppy raising experience. Future raisers also get a chance to “puppysit” before being assigned a puppy of their own.

We know that many people would like to sync up their puppy raising experience with their personal calendars, like over the summer break or after a long vacation. Please keep in mind that the average time it takes to complete the prerequisites listed above (before being added to the list to receive a puppy) is 2-3 months.
